History of the Conference

The conference was established in 2004 by the Institute of Metal Forming (Institut für Metallformung) at the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany.2).

Initially, the conference was called International Workshop on “Magnetism and Metallurgy”3) with the acronym WMM, by which the conference is referred to nowadays, even though the full name was changed to “International Conference on Magnetism and Metallurgy”.

It is also referred to as International Conference “Magnetism and Metallurgy”4) and Magnetism and Metallurgy Conference.5)

The conferences in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 were held at Department of Material Science and Engineering, Ghent University, Belgium.

The conference in 2014 was hosted by Wolfson Centre for Magnetics at Cardiff University, UK. There were around 80 participants, with 28 invited speakers from 14 countries, including Europe, Japan, China, USA and Brazil.6)
