Brake release

Stan Zurek, Brake release, Encyclopedia-Magnetica.com, {accessed 2019-10-23}

Brake release or brake thruster - an electromagnetic actuator used to release and apply mechanical brakes.

Commonly, an electromagnetic brake release is designed with the system such that a failure of the power supply will release the brake in order to provide a fail-safe functionality. This is important in applications such as cranes or lifts.
